The Boston marathon is this coming Monday. This will be the second year that I’ll be running it. The first was in 2005, where after pulling a hamstring, I couldn’t train for a month prior, but showed up anyhow. I lasted for about 13 miles at a deliciously fast pace, and then, as they say in biking, I bonked. I showed up at the finish line nearly an hour late, at 3:52. This year, I’m kind of training through the marathon, as I’m using it to prep for the Ironman in August. I chose to do this at Boston, because, well… why not? It’s only the best running race I’ve been in since college! 26.2 miles of people cheering… Even after finishing the last half delirious and weaving back and forth, I still felt like a winner. This year, however will be a bit different. They have decided to start the race 2 hours earlier (10am instead of 12 noon), and we are expecting “heavy rains and windy conditions.” I’m hoping the people of Boston don’t let this break their spirit, and they still show up to cheer. Thanks to the triathlon training, I’ve really gotten into biking, and recently read both of Lance Armstrong’s books. What an inspirational guy. Put him on my list of people to meet. He would get up on rainy, freezing mornings of the Tour, and laugh because he knew everyone else was dreading it, and that would give him an edge. Livestrong, indeed. -->
